The Youth Section currently stages two productions each year. Details of upcoming and recent productions can be found in Category:Youth Section Productions.
History
In its earlier years, the Youth Section staged three productions annually:
- The Brigadier Thomas Competition (spring) — a collection of one-act plays written, directed, and performed by Youth Section members around a common theme. On the final night, three adult section adjudicators awarded prizes for Best Play, Best Stagecraft, Best Actor, Best Actress, Most Promising Newcomer Actor, and Most Promising Newcomer Actress.
- The Summer Show (late summer or early autumn) — the principal Youth Section production: a full-length play or musical acted and directed by members. Past titles included Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Insect Play, Little Women, James and the Giant Peach, and Carpe Jugulum.
- The Christmas Revue — a relaxed format of songs, sketches, and monologues, with an emphasis on showcasing the range of the membership.
In 2018, the Youth Section staged the world premiere of Kilmainham Kids, directed by its author, Paul Sherman.
In 2022, members devised and performed Parasomnia, an original piece created entirely by the young performers themselves.
In 2024, the Youth Section staged Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods on the Tower Theatre's main stage.
